In the beginning of the earth, there was no water, just land.  It was all a hot, dry desert.  The humans and the birds and creatures of the ground traveled around all day with nowhere to bathe or have a drink.  They knew of a spiteful god, one that made them continuously prove themselves to him to get even the minimal treatment that they did.  The people were having a terribly difficult time living without water.  Camel saw their plight and tried to help, but the humans were not able to go without, like him. Chicken noticed how weak the humans were without water and felt sorry for them.  He decided to fly to the heavens to persuade the god

Milton stood very still, his mouth gaping from surprise.  He was so shocked that his feet were glued to the ground. Literally.
